  • Fermanagh achieve goals
    1. GAA: Cavan 1-08 Fermanagh 2-06 – A depleted Fermanagh versus a resurgent Cavan was the preface to this game played in Kingscourt, Cavan on Sunday last and it was Fermanagh who turned the form book on its head to claim a deserved victory although it has to be said that they were hanging on by their fingertips in the dying minutes. This was a deserved victory not only because they took to the field without, Paul Brewster, Paddy McGuinness, Tom Brewster, Ronan Gallagher, Liam McBarron and lost influential full forward Stephen Maguire at half time with a shoulder injury but also because they fought tenaciously for every ball and when presented with chances to score, in stark contrast to their rivals, they proved more efficient. Moreover, Fermanagh did not put themselves under pressure by conceding possession by poor distribution and their all round play was of a much higher standard than the previous display against Laois. Indeed, the pleasing aspect from John Maughan’s point of view would be that when their backs were against the wall, at the start of the game and in the dying minutes, the players responded positively and played to their capabilities. What is needed now, is a degree of consistency but at least from a performance viewpoint the players and management have given themselves a platform to work from.

  • Quarter-final place a reward for season’s graft
    1. Rugby: Enniskillen 1st XV 23 Banbridge 2nd XV 0 – Perseverence and an indomitable spirit has finally won some reward for Enniskillen in a season that has so far seen the shoulder pitted continually against the wheel with the wheel stubbornly refusing to move. Last Saturday’s Towns Cup second round victory over Banbridge has earned Skins a quarter-final tie away to Lurgan, a team they will be favourites to overcome, but more importantly has boosted confidence and team morale as the side prepare for the relegation dog fight.

  • Deserved victory
    1. GAA U21 Championship: Fermanagh 1-13 Donegal 0-13 – Fermanagh U21’s started what was to be a good weekend for Fermanagh football by progressing through to the first round of the Ulster Championship after a workman like victory over Donegal in Brewster Park Enniskillen last Saturday. Fermanagh were never really in any danger throughout the match and indeed led by eight points at one stage early in the second half. Donegal to their credit did manage a spirited fight back in the last twenty minutes and closed the gap to three points but were never able to get back on equal terms and Fermanagh were well worthy of their three point win.

  • Quality the order of the day at Fermanagh championships
    1. Table Tennis: A very successful Fermanagh Open Table Tennis Championship took place on Saturday last with 82 of the top exponents of the game in Ireland competing throughout the day. With six out of the top ten in Ireland playing this was undoubtedly the best tournament to have taken place in Fermanagh and continued upon the success of last year’s Open. Such was the smooth running of the event and the facilities on hand, the Fermanagh Table Tennis Association hope to run a Junior competition next year in addition to the Fermanagh Open.

  • McNamee comes on to strike winner
    1. FOOTBALL: Lisbellaw United 2; Ardstraw 3 - Ardstraw were worth the three points in this top of table encounter at Drumad on Saturday afternoon as Stephen McNamee came off the bench for 20 minutes to score the winner.
