More than 100 young people attended the
Mannafest Camp at Castle Archdale at
different times last weekend, enjoying music,
activities, seminars and addresses from
visiting speakers.
Mr. Gordon Jackson, Camp Director said that the camp was an extension of
the monthly Mannafest evenings, but this summer they had decided to
“upgrade their activities a little”.
Along with Mr. Mark Kenyon, Chairman of Enniskillen Youth For Christ, Mr.
Jackson organised the weekend, catering mainly for teenagers, and saw a big
improvement on numbers from last year. There were 64 signed in campers,
and about 100 young people present throughout each day, with 140 people
attending the main service on Sunday.
Mr. Jackson explained that the real aim of Mannafest is to bring young people
of all faiths together through music. Music played a major part in the camp,
and was provided by popular Christian group TVB, from the West Midlands,
but by all accounts the show was stolen by local DJ ‘Mr Binary’, alias Steven
Bruce.
Speakers included Mr. Stephen Thompson from Belfast, who spoke to the
group on Friday night after a performance from TVB. His address was
followed by a set from Mr Binary, who played until about 1 am.
After a morning wake up performance from TVB on Saturday, recently
ordained local Minister the Rev. William Nixon spoke to the crowd, and was
followed by the Rev. Allan Synott, who conducted two seminars before lunch.
In the afternoon, activities included a nature ramble around the forest park,
five a side football, and pony trekking.
Later in the evening Kirsten Sandlord, from Calgary, who has been working in
Ballinamallard for the past year as part of the Y1 team, conducted another
seminar, which was followed by an address from Phillip Kerr, from Crown
Jesus Ministries. The night was rounded off in suitable fashion with another
performance from the irrepressible Mr Binary.
On Sunday, the last day of the camp, musical entertainment was provided by
the Enniskillen Mannafest Band, led by Emma Fawcett, while the main
speaker was Shane Magee, from the MAD Ministries. The camp finished at
1:30 pm, after concluding remarks from Camp Director Mr. Jackson, who
dedicated the weekend to Emma Fisher, who was an enthusiastic supporter of
Mannafest, and who helped at the camp last year.
