Roisin is North American Irish Dance champion
Just returned from Toronto where she became North American under 16 Irish Dance Champion is Miss Roisin Keenan, Enniskillen.

Roisin’s success is enhanced by the fact that she took the same title at under 15 last year in San Francisco.

This year’s competition was more intense, due to the cancellation of the World Championships because of foot-and-mouth disease.

Nevertheless Roisin came out top of 119 dancers from all over the USA, Canada and the British Isles.

During their Canadian trip the group met and were given great hospitality by some people with Fermanagh connections. Mrs. Kathy Karapalidis (née Henderson), originally from Enniskillen, whose daughter Kayla dances with the Gregoire School and Martin Irvine (from Ederney), his wife Bridie and their daughters Kathy (also a champion) and Sinead of the Butler-Fearon School.

A pupil of the Peake School, Roisin appreciates the dedication of her teacher, Mrs. Rosaleen Peake, and the support given by the other Peake dancers and their parents.

Roisin and a number of other local dancers have already qualified for the World Championships in Glasgow in 2002, the first time ever for the event to be held outside Ireland, but before that there will be the British Nationals in Manchester and the Ulster Championships, just down the road in Bundoran
