A native of Clones with strong links with Fermanagh, Mrs. Rebecca Jane Koch, née Hutchinson, formerly a resident of Warrensburg and Saratoga Springs, died on March 4, 2002, in Brockport, New York, USA, aged 95 years.

Born on August 29, 1906, in Clones, Rebecca Jane, who became affectionately known as Ruby, was the daughter of Robert Hutchinson and the former Anne Jane Graham, who made their home at Clonumphry, Newtownbutler. At the age of 20 years, she came to the USA, married, and became a citizen.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert M. Koch.

Prior to her retirement in 1972, Ruby was employed as matron of the Warren County Home for the Aging in Warrensburg, New York.

Throughout her active life, she always had a love of the earth through her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. When widowed at age 80, she continued to harvest and had vegetables for the winter from her plentiful vegetable garden. She was devoted to her family and church and in later years she loved bird watching.

Ruby was the beloved mother of Doreen (William) Gilmer, Barbara (Robert) Noble and Donna (John) Goethe; and she is survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and two brothers Sam, Clonumphry, and Charles, Lisnaskea.

Although she was born in Clones, in Co. Monaghan, Ruby spent all of her childhood years living in Fermanagh. She and her daughter, Doreen, visited the old homeplace where her mother, and brother, Sam lived in Clonumphry, Co. Fermanagh in 1959. She also paid later visits with her other daughters in 1979, 1983 and 1987.

Her father, Robert Hutchinson, died at the age of 54 in 1929 and her mother, Anne Jane died at the age of 81 in 1963.

Ruby’s funeral will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saratoga Springs, New York. Interment will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Schenectady, NY.
