A Fermanagh student is the new treasurer of the Harper Ireland Committee which has held its annual dinner. Harper Ireland is the organisation representing the interests of all Irish students at the Harper Adams University College in Shropshire. John Carson, a HND Agriculture student from Garrison, is the new treasurer of the committee. He was among other students from Northern Ireland and the Republic who attended the annual dinner in the Tern Hill Hall Hotel, Shropshire.

The association holds its annual dinner which marks the changeover between their old and new committee and organises social functions and events throughout the year. The 2002 dinner marked the launch of the Harper Ireland web-site which can now be found online at www.harper-adams.ac.uk/v3/harperireland/ireland_home.htm These students are currently studying courses in agriculture, agri-food marketing, animal health and welfare, business, engineering and design, land, countryside and environment and leisure and landscape courses. The guest speaker was Mr. John McAllister, Deputy President of the YFCU who spoke of the importance of the organisation and Mairead McGuinness, from Farming Independent who shared her observations of the farming industry.
