The new principal of St. Paul’s Primary School inIrvinestown, Mrs. Shauna Cathcart, who lives in Enniskillen, takes up her appointment after the Easter holidays.

The principal of St. Joseph’s Primary School, Ederney, for the past three years, Mrs. Cathcart, originally from Castlederg, said she was very sorry to be leaving St. Joseph’s which she described as a school that has a lot of strengths.

Her successor will be Mr. Jimmy Kirk, the principal of St. Macartan’s Primary School, Clogher.

Mrs. Cathcart, who is married to John and has two daughters, Eimear and Aoife, did her teacher training at St. Mary’s College, Belfast. She taught in Belfast and in Castlederg, where she was appointed Vice-Principal, before coming to Ederney, where she took up the Principal’s post. Speaking on her last day at St. Joseph’s Primary, Mrs. Cathcart said thank-you to everyone at St. Joseph’s, including the children, parents, governors and all the staff, for their support and loyalty over the years.

As she looked forward to her new position and a new challenge, she also took the opportunity to wish Mr. John O’Kane all the best in his retirement and she expressed the belief that he will be a hard act to follow.
