The memorial to the Rosslea Martyrs of 1798
was the rallying point for Republican Sinn
Fein’s Easter Commemoration in
Fermanagh on Sunday. According to one
source around 100 people were in St.
Tierney’s graveyard in Rosslea to hear the
leadership call for political status for
republican prisoners and to condemn Sinn
Fein for its “treachery.”The statement from the leadership called for support for the republican
movement and referred to what it described as the “treacherous acts” carried
out by the Provisionals over the past 12 months. It paid tribute to the
volunteers of Continuity IRA in the “continuation of the struggle” and
demanded political status for republican prisoners.
In his address John Joe McCusker (junior), echoed that call and urged
republicans to support the campaign to give political status to republicans in
Maghaberry Prison and those held in jails in England and in the Republic.
The Newtownbutler republican stepped in to give the address due to the
illness of the guest speaker, Emmett Walsh, a member of RSF Ard Comhairle.
Earlier in the day Mr. McCusker had been the main speaker at the RSF
commemoration at Milltown Cemetery in Belfast.
Another Ard Comhairle member, Michael McManus, from the Knocks,
Lisnaskea, presided at the graveside commemoration.
