FOOTBALL: Harry Cavan Irish Youth Cup Final - Ballinamallard United III 0; Ballymena United III 0 (aet - Ballinamallard won 4-3 on penalties) - Ballinamallard United Football Club made it an historic night for themselves and the Fermanagh and Western Football Association as they won the Harry Cavan Irish Youth Cup at Stangmore Park, Dungannon to become the first local side to win the blue riband trophy of youth football.

RALLYING: Circuit of Ireland Rally 2002 - It may have taken two years to arrive, but when the Buy and Sell Circuit of Ireland Rally finally hit town on Easter Saturday, it was the greatest motor sport spectacle that Fermanagh has ever witnessed, and it also turned out to be one of the greatest weekend’s of Andrew Nesbitt’s rallying career, as the Armagh man took his maiden Circuit victory.

RALLYING: Circuit of Ireland Rally 2002 - The absence of any Porsches from the Historic Circuit of Ireland Rally meant that the field was more open that it had been for years, and in what was a nerve jangling finish, the Fermanagh pairing of Mervyn Johnson and Austin Frazer received the laurels and the Champagne at the finish ramp on Monday afternoon.

    1. BOWLS: This year’s winner of the Gaby Gault Memorial Cup is a Christchurch four skipped by teenager Ross Armstrong, who defeated a St. Michael’s rink in a classic final on Tuesday evening. The final stages which this year were held in the excellent venue of Cleenish Community Hall produced some of the most entertaining and competitive bowling seen locally this season.

RUGBY: Junior Cup second round: Clogher Valley 19 Enniskillen 21 - Should Enniskillen end up being relegated this season there will at least be one silver lining to that particularly dark cloud. Clogher Valley are now Qualifying Two certainties next season, and if Skins join them there will be the chance of another two local derby matches, which have brightened what has been an otherwise fairly gloomy season for local rugby.

    1. GAA: Allianz National Football League Division 1B: Fermanagh 2-9 Mayo 1-9 - A memorable goal in the closing minutes from Raymie Gallagher was enough to earn victory for Fermanagh over Mayo at Brewster Park on Sunday.

    1. Fermanagh finished their National Football League campaign with a flourish when they defeated Mayo by three points in a thrilling encounter at Brewster Park. In so doing, Fermanagh inflicted the first defeat on Mayo in 15 league matches and it was indeed a timely boost as the business end of the season fast approaches with the Championship looming large on the horizon on May 12.

  • McFadden’s class ends Fermanagh’s challenge

GAA: Ulster U21 Championship Preliminary Round Replay: Fermanagh 1-10; Donegal 2-10 - Fermanagh made their exit from this year’s Ulster U-21 championship when they were defeated by Donegal on Saturday afternoon. This was a replay after last week’s draw and although Fermanagh put in a better performance on Saturday than they had done the previous week. Donegal also showed improvement and just about deserved their victory to set up a clash with Derry this Saturday in the first round.
