During August a number of Lantra
accredited Safe Tractor Driving
Courses were held at Enniskillen
College which were part funded by
the E.U Programme Building
Sustainable Prosperity 2002-2006.As young persons between the ages of 13-16 years can legally
drive tractors off the Public Highways this course has been
designed to help young drivers develop safe tractor driving skills,
said, Alex Gordon, responsible for co-ordinating the courses at
the College.
So popular were the courses that up to 60 young people enrolled
and were given tuition in safe handling of tractors and machinery
over the four weeks of August.
PARTNERSHIP
According to Mr. Gordon, it is important that these young trainees
have the opportunity to experience current technology by
operating tractors with up to date specifications. For these
reasons the College appreciated the support of Mr Timothy
McFarland; Steyr Tractors; Fintona who made available a new
tractor to assist with the delivery of the courses.
Each training course which lasted two days was strongly
focused on safety including practical demonstrations and
practice sessions on tractor operation; implement attachment
and general maintenance.
The use of a new tractor with a range of both electronic and
manual controls added to the popularity of the practice sessions,
in addition to ensuring that the course content was well focused
on industry needs.
