  • Irvinestown downed by strengthened Dergview
    1. Football: Dergview Res. 3 Irvinestown Wdns. 2 – Irvinestown Wanderers have been relegated to Division 2 of the Fermanagh and Western football league following a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Dergview Reserves on Saturday last at Derrychara. The relegation play off was necessitated following Dergview’s last gasp winner against NFC Kesh last week. For Dergview it is quite a turn around given that they were relegated by the Fermanagh and Western following the abandonment of their final league game of last season.

  • Chambers joins McKenna in NI U17 squad
    1. Football: 16 year old Matthew Chambers from Trory received good news last week when he was called up to the Northern Ireland U17 squad which will play their Scottish counterparts in two friendlies over three days in preparation for the forthcoming European U17 championships.

  • Two goal O'Brien puts champs to the sword
    1. Football: Ballinamallard Utd. 4 Moyola Park 1 – Ballinamallard United bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to Lurgan Celtic on Tuesday last with a fine 4-1 victory over last year's division 2 champions, Moyola Park, at Ferney Park on Saturday afternoon last. It was indeed, a welcome victory with the Ferney Park lads coming back strongly after conceding an early goal to earn a decisive, confidence restoring victory which puts them in the top half of the table at this early stage of the season.

  • Sean plays to the max to win by two
    1. Golf: The Killyhevlin Open was played over Enniskillen Golf course at Castlecoole on Bank Holiday Monday and the beautiful weather attracted many golfers from the local area and from further afield. Enniskillen Golf Club is rapidly becoming a Mecca for visiting golfers who find the course to be one of the premier inland tracks to be found.

  • Maguires find the right Tempo
    1. GAA: Intermediate Championship Final - Tempo 2-08 Kinawley 2-06 – Tempo had to suffer a nervy finish to this game after a blistering opening period was witness to them to open up a ten point lead at one stage only for Kinawley to claw their way back into contention at the finish, closing the gap to two points.

  • Late Curran points edge final
    1. GAA: Fermanagh Senior Hurling Championship Final - Lisbellaw 0-12 Lisnaskea Emmetts 0-10 – Anyone who thinks hurling in Fermanagh lacks a competitve edge should have been in Brewster Park, Enniskillen on Sunday evening last. There, two sides, Lisbellaw and Lisnaskea Emmets, produced a highly competitive game that was in the melting pot up until the final few minutes before multiple winners, Lisbellaw secured the win by virtue of a couple of points from the impressive Dermot Curran, with the final scoreline reading 0-12 to 0-10 in their favour.

  • Gold in veterans race for Boylan
    1. Cycling: Kenny Boylan had a convincing win in the Ulster veterans Road Race Championships which were held at Nutts Corner Co. Antrim on Sunday. The 51 mile race which is always hotly contested by the best riders in Ulster region has never been won by a Lakeland rider before.

  • Local crews to the fore against Europe’s best
    1. Sailing: All of Lough Erne Yacht Club’s six boat J/24 fleet, with 26 local sailors, and 4 others including a Canadian helmswoman in Jeriatrix, competed last week in the Alfa Romeo European J/24 Championship on Dublin Bay and hosted by the Royal Irish Yacht Club. Over 250 sailors in 51 boats from six European countries, were there, from Lough Erne, the most westerly, to Greece, the most easterly, and from Italy, Germany, Ireland, and Britain. The overall winner and European J/24 Champion for 2002 came for Holland, Albert Kooijmann in Just 4 Fun.

  • Brian’s five star display strikes gold
    1. Transplant Games – Lisnaskea's Brian Armstrong was again to the fore at the transplant games which were held at Loughborough University over four days last weekend. Brian was competing in five events, all on the one day, and came away with a startling five golds. This was Brian's second visit to the British Transplant Games after winning three golds in 2001.

  • League points but no cup joy
    1. North Fermanagh’s hopes of lifting the Samuel Jeffrey Memorial Cup for the first time were dashed again at Eglinton on Saturday in a high-scoring final against Ardmore. Cricket: To the side’s great credit, however, nearly the same eleven players bounced back the following day to claim a very creditable league victory by 5 wickets over old rivals Coleraine.

  • Jennings hoping to get back on top
    1. Rallying: The 2002 Stena Line Ulster Rally welcomes the UK’s premier one make Rally Series, the Peugeot 206 Super Cup, with the Irish contingent very much in control. Donegal based Shaun Gallagher leads Fermanagh’s Garry Jennings from Fermanagh by just 14 points after five of the eight Peugeot 206 Super Cup qualifying rounds.
