The death has taken place on April 4, 2003,
of Mrs. Sarah Forde, late of 10 Castlehill
Road, Brookeborough. Sarah passed away peacefully at her home, aged 94 years.
She was born in Enniskillen in 1909, the eldest of nine children, born to the
late William and Helena Armstrong.
In 1933, she married her husband, James. They moved to England and she
was a devoted mother to their daughters, Edith and Winifred.
In 1944, she and her family moved home again to care for her father at
Garvary.
Sarah was very gifted with her hands and in particular excelled at sewing,
dress-making and embroidery.
She was a very kind, caring and helpful person and she was often called
upon by neighbours and friends to help in times of sickness and
bereavements.
After her husband’s death in 1968, she moved to Brookeborough to care for
her aunt and cousin. She continued to care for neighours and friends until the
late eighties.
She had also been an avid gardener and took a special interest in her roses.
When her own health began to decline, confining her to the home, Sarah
loved her family and friends paying her visits and her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren were a source of immense pleasure.
Her funeral service, held at Garvary Parish Church, was led by the Rev.
Dennis Robinson, of Aghavea Parish, who gave a very moving tribute to her
life.
The hymns were: “What A Friend We Have in Jesus;” “Nearer My God To
Thee;” and “I need Thee every Hour.” Psalm 121 was read by her
granddaughter, Sharon Thompson.
Burial took place in the adjoining churchyard and tea was served afterwards
in the church hall.
Mrs. Forde is survived by her daughters, Edith and Winifred (Winnie) and their
families. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great
great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Lena, Belfast; a brother,
William, Tempo; a sister, Margaret, Cooneen; and a sister, Sadie,
Ballinamallard.
She was predeceased by her husband, James and by two sisters, Emily and
Mary, and two brothers, Thomas and John.
The funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street,
Enniskillen.
