Friday, April 25 marked another milestone in the life of Kesh YFC as they officially opened their newly refurbished hall.

A decision was made in 2000 that the hall needed to be refurbished if the Club were to continue to hold meetings in it.

Mr. Derek Humes, funding co-ordinator spent numerous hours seeking grants. His efforts were fruitful and the club would like to thank the following bodies for their financial assistance: Fermanagh Trust; Fermanagh District Council; the WELB; Awards For All; the Enkalon Foundation; Rural Community Network; Lloyds TSB and WREAN.

This money was put to good use with the following work being completed:

1, New roof on the back wing; 2, New kitchen; 3, New toilets; 4, Disabled access; 5, Installation of central heating; 6, New double glazed windows; 7, New floor in the main hall and new floor coverings throughout; 8, Extension to the stage; 9, Painting of the interior and exterior.

However there is still finishing touches required and at this stage the Club would like to thank the past members and friends who either sent donations or made a contribution on the night. These are greatly appreciated and would help to complete the project.

It was the late Mr. James Owens who founded the Club, therefore it was only fitting that his wife, Mrs. Anna Owens should fulfil the honour of officially opening our hall. Mrs. Owens was accompanied by her two daughters and their partners and her two grandchildren. The Club wish to thank the Owens family for attending this special occasion and for their generous donation of cups and saucers to the Club.

Following a welcome and introduction by Mr. Albert Knox, Club President and a summary of the work completed by Mr. Gary Thompson, Club Leader, Mrs. Owens spoke of her late husband’s keen interest in the YFC and wished the club every success for the years ahead before unveiling the plaque to declare the hall officially open.

The entertainment for the night was provided by present club members who performed their Arts Festival production. This was followed by a sketch by a number of past members from the club which made the night memorable.

Miss Leanne Lyttle, secretary, extended a vote of thanks to a number of people who assisted the club throughout the project. At this stage a number of gifts were presented to show our appreciation.

After the formal part of the evening supper was provided and everyone had an opportunity to reminisce about their time in Kesh YFC.

The Club would like to thank everyone who assisted and supported us in any way and to those who attended the opening. It was a truly memorable and enjoyable evening and as several people commented one that will always be remembered in the years to come.
