Trevor Alcorn, Vice-President of the YFCU,
was special guest at Trillick and District
YFC’s Friends and Supporters night. Club
leader, Andrew Grey, welcomed the large
audience of parents and friends of the club
and introduced Lorraine Elliott, Secretary,
who presented a comprehensive report of
the 2002/3 season. Among the many successes were those of David McCutcheon-first in the
YFCU NI Something from Farm Scrap competition, James Henderson-first in
the Treasurer competition and Lorraine Elliott-third in the Secretary
competition in County Tyrone and Allison Barrett who gained the Bronze
Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Cheques were presented to Mr Alcorn for Ian Harvey’s Fields of Life
Campaign, which is supported by the YFCU, and to Christopher Weir who will
travel to Uganda in the summer to participate in the Abaana Project.
During the evening the club was grateful to be presented with a beautiful
silver cup by the Crane family in memory of Christopher Crane who tragically
died last year. The cup will be presented annually for stockjudging and will
be a lasting reminder of their friend and fellow member.
In his remarks Mr Alcorn spoke of the Fields of Life Campaign and thanked
the club for their donation. He congratulated members on their successes
and extended good wishes for the future. Jamie Armstrong presented Trevor
with a gift.
Following the formalities Andrew introduced the comperes for the evening,
John Mathers and Philip Smith who entertained the audience during breaks in
the programme presented by the members. Dean Beatty and Matthew
Kinnear performed “Hole in a Bucket”, the gentlemen modelled wellies and
boiler suits for “The Welly Song” and the Girls Choir performed “Dance with a
Dolly”.
Lindsey Clarke produced the two sketches. “The Annual Visit” portrayed the
excitement of a visit to the club by YFCU co-ordinator, Ross Beacom and
“Blind Date Revisited” resulted in a double wedding when Dean Beatty and
Andrew Grey, David McCutcheon and Graham Cashel returned after last
year’s programme to announce that romances had blossomed. Fortunately
Matthew Kinnear was on hand to perform the ceremony and Cilla (Lindsey
Clarke) had brought a hat.
The programme concluded with the Club Choir singing “When I’m Sixty Four”
and “With a Little Help from my Friends”
Andrew returned to the stage to propose a vote of thanks to all those who had
helped to make Friends and Supporters Night such a success. Bouquets
were presented to Mrs Jayne Vance, accompanist for the evening, Mrs H
Griffin, caretaker of the hall and Pauline Armstrong, President.
Tea was served and members and friends danced the night away at a disco in
the Bridge Inn.
