Mrs. Mary Jane Phair
The death took place at the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen, on July 4 of Mrs. Mary Jane Phair, following a short illness.

Born on February 4, 1918, she was the middle daughter of a family of three girls and three boys to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Elliott, of Drumconnis, Ballinamallard.

    After leaving primary school, Polly as she was affectionately known, attended Loughry Agricultural College in 1936, later working on Martin’s poultry farm in Co. Down. She returned to Fermanagh to work at home on the farm before obtaining employment in Cooper’s grocery and hardware store in Enniskillen.

    In 1947, Polly married William Phair of Feddans, Garvary, and they made their home on the farm where she remained until her death.

    Polly was active in her local church being a faithful member of Garvary Parish Church. She was a founder member of Garvary Mothers’ Union and took an active part in parish activities. She continued to attend worship until the week before her death.

    There was a large number of mourners at her funeral service which took place in Garvary Parish Church. The service was conducted by the rector, Canon J. Stewart, who was assisted by Mr. John Irvine. A reading was delivered by her granddaughter, Alison.

    The burial took place in Tempo Churchyard.

    Polly is survived by her son, Thomas, daughter-in-law, Eva and grandchildren, Jillian, Lynne, Alison and Susan. She is also survived by a sister, Dora, at Drumconnis, Ballinamallard and a brother, John, Tullyrain, Ballinamallard as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a wide family circle. She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1997.

    The funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
