Sunny Fermanagh County Show was paid a
glowing tribute yesterday, Wednesday, by
the recently retired Chief Executive of the
RUAS.Mr. Bill Yarr, also recently retired as Secretary of the Northern Ireland Shows'
Association, was among guests at this year's annual event - due to his
relationship over the years with Fermanagh Farming Society.
It is a part of the country we like to come to, said Mr. Yarr, who has been to
Fermanagh Show very regularly over the years.
He was 25 years with the RUAS and expects that he has probably been in
Fermanagh for at least 20 of those years.
Mr. Yarr described the event as a very good county show and he made
reference to the excellent atmosphere, the nice setting, the very good turn-out
of livestock, and the friendly people.
He also talked about the strong voluntary support.
No show can exist without the voluntary support and Fermanagh certainly
seems to have it in abundance, believes Mr. Yarr.
Mr. Harold Andrews, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, also praised
the annual event.
He felt it was very enjoyable and they were fortunate to have a good day
which makes a difference.
"It is great to see such a good crowd enjoying the show," said Mr. Andrews.
The Council Chairman comes from a farming background and he always
attends Enniskillen Show - which he describes as "our local show." And he is
of the opinion that the farming community should support their local shows.
An enjoyable day, he regards the event as a day out for all the family, with
something for everyone.
It was very clear that this year's visitors shared his sentiments as quite a few
could be heard saying it was "a grand day."
The sun shone brightly and there was a warm, sunny atmosphere.
Everyone was in agreement about the favourable weather - and how it had
boosted the annual event.
Show Secretary, Paula Keelagher, speaking yesterday afternoon, felt that the
show was going very well.
The weather has been a good contributing factor, indicated Paula, who was
enjoying her first year in office.
She felt that the crowds were very good and everyone seemed happy.
Paula went on to thank the sponsors for their support to the show and said
they make it happen.
In addition, she acknowledged the backing of the stewards and last year's
Show Secretary, Ann Orr, while she also extended thanks to Stuart Johnston
of the Ulster Farmers' Mart.
