Looking like latter day Vikings hell-bent on
rape and pillage, around 110 members of
the Harley Davidson Owners Group
thundered through Enniskillen on Saturday
morning. But according to one of their number, Joy Allen, those fearsome looks are
deceiving. In fact if she is to be believed they spend most of their time raising
cash for worthy causes. More unlikely looking charity collectors you would be
hard pressed to find!
The bikers were in Fermanagh for their annual HOG ‘n’ BOG rally;
celebrating their 20th birthday and the 100th anniversary of the first Harley
Davidson motorcycle rolling off the production line.
Joy, a business executive in a pin striped suit when not sitting astride her
Harley in leathers and dark sunglasses, says it is more than a bike, it is a way
of life.
She and the rest of the motorcycle gang provided a noisy and colourful
spectacle as they left their base at Enniskillen Rugby Club on Saturday for a
ride out along the Lough Shore Road to Belleek, Ballyshannon, Donegal town
and back via Pettigo, Kesh and Irvinestown.
Joy insisted they were a nice bunch of guys and girls, pointing out that many
are solicitors and bankers.
Er… there you have it then; those bikers really are as nasty, callous and
despicable as they look!
