Around 20 people are thought to have lost
their jobs following the closure this week of
Phoenix Picture Frames, based at
Chanterhill, Enniskillen. The business was
founded by Dutch man, Mr. Frank Peeters
more than a quarter of a century ago and
had provided steady employment in the
town. They produced framing products many
of which were exported to a variety of
countries worldwide. Some employees have been with the company from near its inception.
The company was unavailable for comment but a message on the company’s
phone stated it was “closed for restructuring.” It is believed the company went
into voluntary liquidation.
Employees returned to work on Monday morning after a two-week holiday
break. According to one of them they were told to go home. It is not known
when they will receive redundancy payments. They were apparently given
scant details of what was happening but they have been signing on as
unemployed workers since.
Former MLA, Mr. Sam Foster, said he was saddened by the factory’s closure.
“We have had many blows but we need an economic injection in this town,”
He said he had been in touch with Invest Northern Ireland, through its new
local office and is aware that they are preparing for new employment
opportunities locally.
