A 44-year-old man has been fined £100
after he admitted buying alcoholic drinks for
his 16-year-old son, who was attending a
high school disco.Henry George Bell, of Coleshill Crescent, Enniskillen, appeared at
Fermanagh Court and admitted purchasing intoxicating liquor from the
Winemarket off-licence at the Gaol Square in Enniskillen for a person under
the age of 18.
A PSNI inspector said that around 8.15pm on March 14, Bell entered the
Winemarket off-licence and bought a litre of wine, a litre of Red Square and
two bottles of the alcopop, WKD. He handed the drinks over to his 16-year-old
son.
When questioned by police about the incident Bell initially admitted buying
the booze but denied giving it to his son. However, he called at Enniskillen
Police Station two days later and admitted giving the drinks to his son, who
was going to a school disco.
Miss Nessa Murnaghan, for Bell, said he was bringing his son to the High
School disco and his son asked him to buy him some alcohol. He was aware
his son was able to get alcohol in Enniskillen and preferred to buy it for him
and give him a responsible attitude towards it. He did not pass all the drinks
he bought to his son. There were others present but he only gave the alcohol
to his son.
Miss Murnaghan maintained Bell was taking a responsible attitude and
pointed out that if the drink was for consumption in his own home it would not
have been a problem.
