Golf: As Enniskillen Golf Club President, Mr.
Sam Robinson, rose to address the
assembled, expectant crowd following a
most successful President's Day
competition the applause which greeted him
was thunderous. They were not disappointed as Sam spoke at length of his pride in Enniskillen
Golf Club and his admiration for the hard work done by so many volunteer
workers to make the Club one of the best in the country.
Thanking all who had contributed to his President's Day, Sam went on to
commend the course condition and the fine greens which proved a real test of
golf for all the competitors.
Thanking the many visiting Club representatives who turned up to pay their
respects to a most popular President, Sam also thanked the many members
who competed for a fine array of prizes.
And so to the results. As the winning score was announced it was
enthusiastically applauded as Pat Concannon had shown that he is still one
of the best local golfers around. Pat, playing off a 12 handicap, returned a nett
64 which was a score made by steady tee to green golf and a deadly putting
stroke.
Pat in his acceptance speech was also complimentary about the course and
thanked the President for a most valuable selection of prizes.
In second place was David Humphreys who shot a marvellous nett 65 off his 9
handicap. David has long been a single figure golfer and it was good to see
him in the frame.
Third place was decided on countback with Pat McCaffrey pushing Ian Lyttle
into fourth place. Pat had stood on 15 at three over gross but a double bogey
followed by dropped shots at the 16th and 17th were to prove costly.
Pat was as ever philosophical about his finish and was clearly delighted to be
among the top prize winners.
Their were many note worthy scores and these included the reliable Rodney
Howe who won the best gross prize and the nearest the pin on the 11th.
The longest drive on the 18th was struck by young Andrew Davidson who hit
a mighty drive.
Nicholas Wilson took the Junior prize with an impressive return and the future
looks bright with some exceptional talent on the horizon.
The President's Prize for the Ladies was a hard fought battle with Martina
McCaffrey showing that Pat isn't the only golfer in the family as she took that
competition from runner-up Ruth Crooke.
Proving that lightning does strike twice was Blacklion visitor Patsy Ferguson
who followed up last year's success with another 38 points and the Visitor's
prize for a second term.
As the night turned to day, the music and entertainment was of the highest
quality, and President Sam Robinson reflected on a job well done.
