The death of Daphne Lendrum took place at the Erne Hospital on Wednesday, 3 September after a prolonged illness. Her courage and cheerfulness throughout her illness were an inspiration to the many friends and relations who visited and kept in touch over a lengthy period.

Born on 24 March, 1956, she was a daughter to Robin and Eileen McCullagh of Mullaghmeen and older sister of Jim. She moved to the Sligo Road and later to Ballaghmore, Rossorry at the age of eight years. It was here that she was to spend many enjoyable years until her marriage.

Daphne was educated at Jones Memorial P.S., Enniskillen Collegiate and finally Stranmillis College. After a period of teaching in Belfast she returned to teach in Jones Memorial where she remained until her untimely death. During her time in Jones Memorial she taught under five principals and made many friends in the teaching profession throughout the Western Board, as well as the numerous children who were guided and groomed for their future education. Many kept in touch over the years and expressed their gratitude for her help and advice.

She was involved in many activities in Rossorry Parish being a member of the G.F.S., choir and a Sunday School teacher as well as being a Cub Scout leader for many years.

Daphne was a very loyal friend to many and was a good hostess who extended a warm welcome to everyone who called at her home.

In her married years she attended St. Macartin’s Cathedral on a regular basis with her family.

In 1991, Daphne married Paul Lendrum and they made their home in Barnhill on the outskirts of Enniskillen. They had two children, Lauren (10) and Adam (7), to whom she devoted much of her time and energy in the last 10 years. Daphne was also a loving wife and daughter to her parents, Robin and Eileen, and indeed to all the family circle.

Her funeral at Rossorry was attended by a large congregation which was a dignified tribute to a wonderful and much respected person.

The service was conducted by Archdeacon Cecil Pringle and assisted by the Rev. Isobel Nixon and Precentor Brian Courtney.

Daphne is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Lauren and Adam; father and mother, Robin and Eileen; brother Jim, sister-in-law Jackie and their children, Katy, Emma and Robyn.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by W. T, Morrison, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
