FOOTBALL: Division Three - Enniskillen
Santos 1; Ederney 2 - Santos came back
down to earth with a bump last Saturday
when they were beaten by fellow strugglers
Ederney at the Forum.Santos failed to build on their impressive victory over Lisbellaw as they could
not score from gilt-edged opportunities in front of goal. The strong swirling
wind made football very difficult and it was the strong Ederney side which took
full advantage, scoring after 18 minutes.
Santos created few scoring opportunities in the opening half, a pale shadow
of the side which looked so confident the previous week.
A stern half-time team talk added a fresh impetus to the Santos.
Bryon McNern scored a deserved equaliser after 57 minutes, but for all their
dominance, the failure to score was the difference between the sides.
Mickey Curry and Gerry Keaveney squandered good chances to put the
game beyond the reach of the visitors.
The sucker punch came after 74 minutes. Santos stand-in keeper Malcolm
Kennedy lost the flight of a speculative effort from 30 yards, the ball nestling in
the back of the net via Kennedy’s hands.
Ederney fought like Trojans for the last quarter, defending their lead well.
Darryl McAdam missed a chance to snatch a draw for Santos, who, at the
moment, don’t seem to be able to put a string of results together.
“It was a disappointing result after beating Lisbellaw”, moaned manager
Thomas McCaffrey. His side take a break this week due to Irish Junior Cup
fixtures.
