FOOTBALL: European U19 Championships
- Enniskillen footballers Aine McGovern and
Lynne McFrederick are of to Lithuania with
the Northen Ireland U19 team in an attempt
to qualify for the finals of the European
Championships in the said age group.The cultural shock that may well await them will be of equal magnitude to the
on field tasks that lie ahead as Northern Ireland take on Italy, Russia and the
host nation Lithuania in three otugh games in five days.
Northern Ireland play Russia next Tuesday, September 22, Italy two days later
on the Thursday and Lithuania on the Saturday in what is sure to be a hectic
few days.
Aine McGovern is the captain of the side while Lynne McFredrick plays at left
back and both featured well in their final warm up game against France last
weekend. France are the reigning European champions and hence the 6-0
defeat suffered by Northen Ireland should be put into suitable context.
The two Enniskillen girls should enjoy the experience of a lifetime in Lithuania
and will be pitting their skills against top level quality within their age group.
As such their football is sure to improve and that ultimaltely is what it is all
about. If Northen Ireland manage to qualify then it will be an added bonus.
