Top Simmental Club prizes come to Fermanagh
Fermanagh breeders took away most of the silverware and trophies on offer at the Northern Ireland Simmental Cattle Breeders’ Club annual dinner and prize night.

Robert Forde from Mullyknock, Tempo and William Nelson from Rosslea were the main award winners of the evening at Walsh’s Hotel, Maghera.

Robert Forde, who was accompanied by his wife, Lorna, was the Simmental Balmoral Show winner of 2003 with his heifer, Raceview Martina-Eval. He received the Irwin Cup for champion Simmental; a cow bell for the best Simmental female; Bangor and Six Road Ends Trophy and Bobby Gamble Trophy for the best heifer born after January 1, 2001 and a pair of engraved crystal goblets. He also won the Northern Bank Female of the Year award for the same heifer during Enniskillen Show.

William Nelson received the Northern Bank Silver Salver for the best pedigree animal at the spring club sale of 2003, with Drumacritten Major.

The prizes were presented by Mrs. Avril Stubbs, wife of the Club Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Stubbs from Irvinestown, and by Mrs Thelma Gorman, Club vice-Chairman.

Kenneth Stubbs presented a Tyrone Crystal vase to the guest speaker, Mrs Sara Roberts, secretary of the British Simmental Society. In her address, she endorsed the qualities of the breed and stated that with all the changes in the farming industry and its uncertain future, the Simmental breed offered commercial farmers a good quality animal to improve their income.
