Former Enniskillen Town United goalkeeper, 19 year old Michael McGovern (above), looks set to be on the bench for Celtic tonight (Thursday) when they play their crucial UEFA cup tie against Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

Following the suspension of Rab Douglas and with Magnus Hedman on loan at Ancona, Michael is next in line to David Marshall who will be between the posts.

It was a confident Michael though that spoke to the Irish News on Tuesday saying that he would be ready to step in and will prepare for the game as if it is just another match.

Michael is currently on a one year deal with Celtic which he signed last year at the end of his inital two year spell with the club and is hoping to sign another contract which will keep him at the Scottish giants.

Michael’s elevation to the first team squad has rounded off a good week for the McGovern family with younger sister Aine just back from captaining the Northern Ireland ladies U18 squad that played in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. Ainé who has captained the Northern Ireland team up through the ranks, would like Michael, seem to have a big future in top level soccer.
