Enniskillen Running Club athletes made the short trip out to Derrygonnelly on Saturday to take part in the Derrygonnelly 10K and Richard Mason produced an excellent run to win his maiden 10K.

Ciaran McCaffrey is within sight of completing a remarkable challenge. At Christmas the local runner set himself a target of running a 10K race in every county in Ireland, and with over three months still remaining he has competed in 29 of the 32 counties, with only Carlow, Cavan and Leitrim still on his list.

Fermanagh athlete Helen Stockdale continued her impressive run of form in recent weeks by adding the Northern Ireland Senior 10,000m title to the two Irish Masters gold medals and one silver she won in Tullamore a week previous.

Last Sunday was a harsh lesson in championship racing for Fermanagh’s Mark Hoy as he saw his hopes for a medal in the 800m at the Irish Senior Championships dashed.

Tara Malone has completed an incredible feat of endurance, running six marathons in six days in six different countries. The Enniskillen runner, along with fellow runners Darren Hamilton and Paul Floyd, took on the challenge to raise money for MacMillan Cancer, and in a gruelling week covered 26 mile routes in England, Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man, as well as Dublin and Belfast. Tara admits there were feelings of elation and relief when they reached the finish line of the sixth marathon at Belfast City Hall.

Enniskillen athlete Ciaran Dolan added the Irish U23 Long Jump title to his growing list of national honours at a cool and breezy Mardyke in Cork on Sunday morning. Dolan, a former St Michael’s College athlete, had already won national honours at every age group from U14 to junior (U20) and added five Irish schools titles and the Northern Ireland senior title at the youthful age of 18 in 2011.

Lisnaskea’s Glenn Phair became the first Fermanagh man to win the Enniskillen 10K when he romped home by two clear minutes to top the podium in a time of 33 minutes and 11 seconds.

Mark Hoy produced a storming run at the Irish Varsity Championships in Waterford last week to secure the 1500m title, and in doing so clinching qualification on the Irish team that will participate at the Celtic Varsity Championships in Scotland next month, with Mark hoping to retain the title in Scotland that he won last year.
