Moving from Merthyr Tydfil, 20 miles north of Cardiff, to Arney is not be the easiest of transitions, but Mairead O’Connor has taken it in her stride.

Eighteen months after her family moved, she is now attending St. Aidan’s, Derrylin, where she enjoys Art and PE. She volunteers with Arney youth club every Friday night, teaching the younger children dance routines and drama sketches. Her grandfather, Bernard O’Connor heads the St. Michael’s Brass Band, so she now signed up with the popular ensemble, playing the cornet.

Of moving to Fermanagh she says: “It has been OK, there are lovely friendly people over here.” She has made “lots of friends” and has also learnt the ins and outs of Gaelic football (from her dad who taught GAA in Wales), and is on the back line for one of the Kinawley ladies teams.

Whilst she has not kept up her karate (which she had practised in Wales), the busy teen now enjoys a busy social life and has lots of friends.

For this week’s Lifestyle shoot, Mairead wears black and white shorts, a black top and black ankle boots from New Look.

Next, she wears a red and black tartan skater skirt from Exhibit, teamed with a black leather jacket from New Look. “I wore this over Christmas and it’s my favourite,” she explains.

She is ready for a day shopping with her pals in New look jeans, a New look jacket, a cream blouse from ASDA and white Converse trainers from Sports Direct. In black leather trousers from River island and a wine blouse with hearts from Exhibit, Mairead is ready for her teen disco in Tempo, where she really enjoys dancing and spending time with friends.

Her fashion icons are Rihanna and Ariana Grande and she describes her style as “casual but edgy.” She also wears a River Island watch. Her hair is by Claire McGoldrick, Derrylin and make-up by her cousin Shauna O’Connor.

A big fan of ‘The Wanted’, Mairead was delighted to receive tickets to their upcoming Belfast gig as a Christmas gift. She will go with her mum and her friend Tara, but a shopping trip for a new outfit is in order first!
