BANKRUPTCY, mortgage arrears repossession actions, debt relief orders, payment plans, negotiation with creditors, enforcement advice, social security benefits, housing issues, consumer problems.

Just some of the topics covered by Gary McIntyre from Fermanagh Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) during last week's Impartial Reporter Twitter Q&A session.

Gary, an adviser with Fermanagh CAB, says he and his colleagues have seen an increase in people from the county turning to them for assistance in recent years.

And he says they are currently dealing with millions of pounds worth of debt.

Asked what avenues people should go down to relieve the stress of financial hardship, Gary tweeted: "We empower people to prioritise their debts and negotiate a resolution to them".

Responding to a tweet on what help CAB can provide in relation to the latest governmental budget, he said: "We will be able to advise clients regarding the budget changes and how they will impact on them".

One of the main services offered by CAB is assistance with benefits. Gary explained how many people are visiting to ask if they will be reassessed for Employment and Support Allowance.

He explained how people can be reassessed under welfare reform proposals if they are not within three years of state pension age.

Another tweet read: "My sickness benefit has been stopped and I have appealed the decision, can Citizens Advice help me?" "We have a Disability Advocacy project and our benefit tribunal worker represents at hundreds of benefit appeals each year. We do dozens of presentations to all types of groups and home visits if the client cannot come to see us due to their health".

Raffo (@Rafferty343) tweeted: "Have you seen an increase in people contacting you because of welfare reform?" Gary replied: "Most definitely, given the changes to Employment and Support Allowance and Incapacity reassessment many more appeals and questions".

Asked if Disability Living Allowance will be affected by the welfare changes, he tweeted: "All DLA claimants who are working age (i.e 16-64) will be reassessed for PIP (Personal Independence Payment). Likely to involve a medical".

Dean Molyneaux (@DeanMolyneaux) asked if CAB offer advice for farming and agriculture issues. "We do not provide any specialist advice in this area other than benefit uptake and dealing with debt," he replied.

Many people are feeling under pressure from credit card companies at the moment but Gary was quick to point out during last week's Twitter Q&A that help is at hand.

He added: "Seek independent advice, have financial statement prepared and consider all options for dealing with your debt".

Another tweet read: "Living in Belleek, can't get into Enniskillen, can I get advice?" "We provide advice by phone and email and have Rural Advice projects covering all parts of Fermanagh including Belleek," replied Gary.

Micky Farry (@Mickyfarry12) tweeted: "My employer is trying to stop me going on taking holidays during the summer. Not legal is it?" Gary replied: "Most workers doing five day week entitled to 28 days, notice of twice the period of leave must be given".
