Hundreds of farmers and their families came out to support the Ulster Farmers’ Union’s information evening to advise on the regulations for using agricultural vehicles on public roads.

The UFU, in association with the Driver and Vehicle Agency, HM Revenue and Customs, the Health and Safety Executive, Northern Ireland Environment Agency and Police Service for Northern Ireland has published a guide to Agricultural Vehicles on the Road which outlines the regulations in force for agricultural vehicles. These range from the age of drivers permitted to drive agricultural machines to the loads permitted and when red diesel could be used.

The information evening took the form of an exhibition and demonstration event. Trade stands were set up from various agencies involved in the project as well as local companies involved in various aspects of rural activities such as security, quad bikes and timber cutting.

The Fire and Rescue Service put on a demonstration of a burning car.

The evening was considered a great success with many of those attending made aware of their responsibilities when using agricultural machines on the farm and on the public road.
