The widely respected Fermanagh woman who lost her life in a tragic farming accident in the county this week, will be laid to rest following her funeral service in Clabby this afternoon, Thursday.

Mrs. Violet Letitia Breen, late of Clabby Road, Fivemiletown, died on Monday after she was crushed by a cow at her home farm.

News of the tragedy has been met with unbelievable shock and sadness across the community, where Violet, was not only a well-known face in farming circles, but was also held in high esteem at T. Chambers and Sons Ltd, Enniskillen, where she was a valued member of the office staff for the past 30 years.

The wife of Jack Breen, Violet - a very keen farmer throughout her life - was born into a farming background. Formerly Bleakley of Cabra, Irvinestown, she was one of five daughters of Charles and Maud.

Following her early education in Irvinestown, she continued her studies at the Duke of Westminster, Kesh, followed by the Technical College in Enniskillen.

At the start of the sixties, she worked in Robert Dickie and Sons, Enniskillen, for a time, and then took up employment at Ballycassidy Sawmills, where she remained until 1981.

She then went to her current employers, T. Chambers and Sons, Enniskillen, where news of their esteemed colleagues death is deeply regretted.

Mr. Victor Chambers paid tribute to the much valued long serving member of staff and said she was always held in very high esteem. Extending their sympathies to the immediate family, he said she would be greatly missed.

Over the years, Violet pursued a number of interests, including in her early years being a member of the Royal Observor Corps and she played badminton.

In 1975, she married Jack Breen and they made their home at Clabby Road, Fivemiletown.

A member of Creagh Methodist Church, in which she took a major interest, she also took a keen interest in Tempo Silver Band; Jack, a long-time member, served as drum-major for many years.

An outgoing, friendly peoples person, Violet made a lot of friends over the years.

Her funeral service at St. Margarets Parish Church, Clabby (kindly granted) will be held at 2pm today, Thursday, followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Sweeney, Violets minister at Creagh Methodist Church. The removal was held yesterday evening, Wednesday, from Elliotts funeral home to St. Margarets Church.

The support of the community at this time is deeply appreciated by the family.

Violet is survived by her husband, Jack and her four sisters: Audrey Brownlee, Winnie Orr, Joan Smyton and Daphne Seaney. She leaves Jacks brother David Breen and sister Maureen Stevenson, nieces and nephews, the wider family circle and her many friends.

There are family flowers only. Donations in lieu, if desired, are to Creagh Methodist Church and Tempo Silver Band c/o funeral directors S.R. Elliott and Sons, Enniskillen.
