A much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Letitia Maud Warrington, affectionately known as Lottie, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2012 at the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen. A former island dweller, Lottie was born on Killygowan Island, Upper Lough Erne on April 1, 1924, the only child of William and Isabella Healey. She attended Slee School, Inishmore, Lisbellaw, followed by Derryharney School, and in her younger years, she helped out with farming.

In 1946, Lottie married William Warrington who lived at Beagho, Lisbellaw, and they initially made their home at Naan Island, Upper Lough Erne, and later at Slee, Inishmore, and then in October 1958 at Derryvullan, Tamlaght, Enniskillen. They had one daughter, Sylvia, and three sons, William, Mervyn and David.

Lottie recorded her memories in a book entitled Islanders - Island Life on Upper Lough Erne, Killygowan 1924 to 1946; Naan Island West 1946 until 1948; and Return Visit Summer 2003. She was assisted with the booklet by Fiona Wilson.

During her career, Lottie worked at Taylor Woods, Enniskillen, and she then worked at a grocery shop in Lisbellaw initially for Norman Brown, followed by Gordon Elliott.

She held many interests including gardening and baking and she had an appreciation of nature and loved animals. Lottie delighted in spending time with her family and she loved to follow the progress of her grandchildren.

Remembered as fun loving, Lottie had a great knowledge of rural things, but particularly of the lakes along with their joys and dangers.

Tribute is paid to her as a happy wife and mother; her garden was always meticulous and she was a good homemaker. There was no escaping a good cup of tea and lots of home baked goodies. To her, generous hospitality came naturally. In recent years and months, she has been acknowledged for demonstrating tremendous courage and resilience as she coped so well with her illness. Her life's rich experience, her love for people, and the loving care of her family, along with faith, enabled her to 'fight a good fight'.

She had been a member of Derryharney Parish Church, which was followed by her membership of Derryvullen Parish Church, Tamlaght, where a Service of Thanksgiving for her life was held on Friday, May 11, 2012. The service was conducted by Canon John Stewart, Rector of Derryvullen South and Garvary, assisted by the Rev, William Buchanan, a retired Methodist Minister, who was Lottie's first cousin.

The hymns were What a Friend We have in Jesus; Shall we Gather at the River; and On a Hill Far away stood an Old Rugged Cross.

The organist was Mrs. Evelyn Johnston, and Mrs. Ann Bullock read a poem.

Lottie is survived by her daughter Sylvia and son-in-law Wesley and three sons William, Mervyn and David; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Gordon Elliott, Lisbellaw, was the funeral director.
