The end of the school term saw a number of retirements take place at Enniskillen Integrated Primary School.

Among them was teacher Marie Slevin, from Dromore, who retired from the school after approximately 17 years' service.

"It has been a lovely place to work; really enjoyable," believes Marie, who spoke of her "great colleagues" and "the lovely atmosphere in the school." She mentioned that on the final week they had a really nice school assembly when there was special recognition from the children and staff for her and three other staff members who were retiring - Veronica Swift, playground supervisor, Jean McCann, from the kitchen staff, and Evie Livingstone, a classroom assistant.

The young people presented them with books of stories, poems and cards created by the pupils themselves. Marie felt this was the best gift for all four to receive.

Originally from Carrickmacross, Co, Monaghan, she worked in Canada as a teacher for 13 years before returning to settle in Northern Ireland. Her teaching career has included service at St. Joseph's PS Drumquin, St. Paul's PS Irvinestown and Knocknagor PS, Trillick.

In the late nineties, she moved to Enniskillen Integrated Primary, where she remained until last Friday.

"I have really really enjoyed teaching," commented Marie, who regards it as a "wonderful profession to have." She pays tribute to her Principal Adele Kerr, the Board of Governors, Parents' Council, all her colleagues, the whole of the school community, the children and parents.

There was a special word of mention for the children, whom she said made her life "really happy and worthwhile." In retirement she plans to spend more time with friends and family, including her grandchildren.
