A mountainous challenge got underway in Enniskillen this morning as the Children's Hospice Horizon West Support Group's walk and cycle sped into action. Starter's orders have been given to both the walkers and cyclists, many of whom are from the county, as they set off on the major Croagh Patrick event - an exciting challenge being taken up today, Saturday, August 11.

Since its launch in 2009, participation in the Walk has moved up a gear, helping to raise vital funds for Horizon West Children's Hospice. This year, the 110m cycle event was added for those wishing to take up a more 'challenging' pursuit.

An invitation to take part in the walk or cycling event was extended by Horizon West Support Group Organiser Gladys O'Callaghan, who wanted to make this event bigger than ever to raise as much as possible for their local charity.

She regards the Croagh Patrick walk, with the addition of the cycling event, as a great day out. The cyclists, who set off early this morning in two groups to take up the 110m cycle, will join the walkers at the foot of the mountain at the end of the challenge.

The cyclists will also have the opportunity to climb Croagh Patrick tomorrow, Sunday before returning to Fermanagh.

NI Children's Hospice Horizon West provides specialist hospice care to children, young people and their families living within the Tyrone and Fermanagh area.
