The death took place of Michael Greene, 5 Ferny Rise, Enniskillen, in the South West Acute Hospital on August 9, 2012 following a short illness.

Michael was born on June 14, 1932, in Glasgow, the second eldest of a family of nine. He was the son of James and Bridget Greene from Kinawley. The family moved back to Crocknacrieve when Michael was young and where his father worked as a blacksmith.

Michael moved to London at 19 and subsequently met Kathleen Maguire (Killesher) and married in 1957. Their first born, Jarlath died at birth. A daughter Angela followed and then Gerard and Gemma who were born in Bradford. Having worked in England on the railways, Michael and his family moved back to Derrylin in 1964. Michael worked for the Rivers Agency during which time he saved the lives of two of his colleagues; however due to ill health Michael had to retire at 50. He moved to Enniskillen in 1977 where he lived until his passing on August 9, 2012.

Michael was an outgoing, friendly and sincere gentleman. He suffered the grief of losing two sons Jarlath at birth and Gerard who died in 1990. These bereavements were devastating for Michael but he had tremendous faith wich carried him through. He had left school at the age of 14 but was an extremely knowledgable man. He had a great interest in history and geography and knew the smallest details about most countries in the world. He also loved politics and had a great social conscience. He paid his weekly stipend to the parish and supported many charities, the chief one being Trocaire. He was a great support to Angela when she went to South Africa in 2009 with the Niall Mellon Foundation. He believed in justice and fair play for all and stood up for his beliefs in a quiet, simple way. He attended Mass in Enniskillen and the Graan almost every day whilst he was able and looked after his wife Kathleen until her death in 2006. They were known for their daily mass going.

Michael had three grandchildren, Ciara, Erin and Daire of whom he was very proud. They are heartbroken about losing their granddad who never forgot their birthdays, sending them witty cards always with a joke written by himself inside. He frequently assisted them with their homework. Michael knew something about everything. He loved sport and was a Man United supporter and he play gaelic football for Art Mac Murchadha Club that won the Minor Championship in 1949. He loved Irish music and had a button accordion which he played; he was delighted when his grandson Daire Prunty took up the accordion and banjo and became very accomplished at both. He enjoyed travel and spent many holidays in Donegal, Cork and Achill Island. He always loved the sea. He was a charming, charismatic man who touched the lives of so many people and he will be very deeply missed.

Michael's funeral mass was concelebrated by Canon O'Reilly, Fr. Jim McManus, Fr. Niall Greene (cousins) and Fr. Salvian Maguire C.P. (brother in law). Members of Michael's family participated in the liturgy, bringing symbols of his life to the altar, reciting the prayers of the faithful and the readings.

His remains were conveyed to Breandrum Cemetery where he was buried beside his beloved wife Kathleen and son Gerard.

Michael is survived by his daughters Angela (Jon), Gemma (Gerry) grandchildren Ciara, Erin and Daire; brothers Terry and Jimmy (predeceased Brendan, Vincent and Patsy); sisters Bridie, Mary and Kathleen; sisters-in-law, Mary, Sarah and Bridie and brothers-in-law Noel and Fr.
