A much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Mrs. Gertrude Rebecca (Gertie) Rutledge passed away suddenly at her home, Barbour Court, Enniskillen on July 30, 2012.

Gertie, as she was better known, was born on December 28, 1930 in Tempo, She was one of six children to Robert and Elizabeth McFarland. She attended school in Tempo and commenced her working career in Taylor Woods factory. It was during her employment here that she met and married Jack Rutledge from Cornafanog on August 18, 1954. Gertie and Jack went to Huddersfield in England on their honeymoon and stayed there for two years.

In 1955, their daughter Vera was born, followed by their son Brian in 1957.

When Gertie and Jack returned from Huddersfield, they moved in to Cornafanog before finally purchasing their home at Westville Terrace in Enniskillen.

Gertie worked in several eating establishments in Enniskillen including Wilsons, the Crow's Nest. Flo's and the Horseshoe.

In her spare time, Gertie enjoyed knitting, watching sports and the soaps and travelling to Bundoran once a week with her friends.

Gertie also had sorrow in her life -- her daughter Vera sadly passed away in 1991 and her husband Jack in 2001.

Her son Brian married and had three children and Vera's daughter Pamela had two children.

A hard-working and devoted family woman, she loved to see everyone visit and took great delight in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Due to ill-health, Gertie moved to a flat in Barbour Court in May 2011, where her sister Mae resides. Gertie was very happy in her new home and was regularly seen walking up to the Post Office or chemist.

Gertie's funeral service at St. Macartin's Cathedral was conducted by Rev. Alistair Warke. The hymns were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Praise the Lord!" followed by burial at Tempo Parish Church.

The organist was Glenn Moore.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Enniskillen.

Gertie is survived by her son Brian and wife Violet, grandchildren Pamela, Jack, Helen and Neil, great grandchildren Sam and Stephanie, sisters Mae and husband Tommy (Enniskillen) Coralie and husband, John (Bangor) and wider family circle.
