A native of Fermanagh, Mr. Cecil Irvine, devoted husband of Agnes and loving brother of Ethel, Irene, Derek and Kenneth passed away suddenly on August 19, 2012. Cecil, born on February 12, 1937, the eldest of a family of nine, was a son of the late Lily and William Irvine, Lisgoole Abbey.

He spent his childhood on Lisgoole estate, attending Jones Memorial School. After leaving school, he joined the staff of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway; he worked as a messenger and subsequently junior clerk. He left in 1957, the year of its closure, to take up employment in Belfast.

Cecil met his future wife Agnes McCrea Campbell and they were married on September 2, 1967 and lived in Belfast.

Most of his years were spent working in the textile industry, first with JP Coats. After 18 years he moved to Shorts, where he worked another 13 years, taking early retirement in May 1993.

Cecil had many interests mainly the Masonic Order, RBP, Apprentice Boys, USC, and 13th Belfast BB Old Boys' Association.

He was also a member of the Railway Preservation Society. Having a great passion for writing Cecil wrote a chapter in Bygone Days on Fermanagh Railways by Kevin Love.

His funeral in Belfast was followed by burial in Rossorry Parish Churchyard, Enniskillen.

Predeceased by his mother and father, brothers Fred, Ronald, Leslie, and sister Gladys, Cecil, who had a kind and generous nature, will be sadly missed by his wife Agnes, his sisters Ethel and Irene, brothers Derek and Kenneth, all the family circle and dear friends in Belfast and Fermanagh.
