A memorial march by republicans to remember IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands (pictured) on the 32nd anniversary of his death will take place in Enniskillen on Sunday at 5.30pm.

Organised by the Eamonn Ceannt Society Fermanagh, the march, featuring one band, will start at Kilmacormick Avenue and finish at the Bobby Sands Monument at Cornagade.

According to the Parades Commission website, up to 200 supporters and participants are expected.

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein's annual Bobby Sands memorial lecture takes place on Sunday at 6pm in Newtownbutler community centre, with guest speaker, Sinn Fein MLA Raymond McCartney, who was a prisoner in Long Kesh when the second hunger strike began.

Speaking to An Phoblacht, Mr McCartney remembered his friend, Bobby Sands, ahead of the anniversary of his death.

"The prison authorities had the opportunity to do the right thing at the end of the first hunger strike and we acted with good faith but they did not and that left a large gap that had to be filled and Bobby Sands knew how to do that." "The rest of us were living in hope that no one would have to die. On reflection now, it is plain to see that Bobby Sands was in no doubt that he was going to die. He knew the only way that people were going to accept that we were involved in a political struggle was by going on hunger strike and dying. It was a measure of his leadership and raw courage," he said.
