Transport Minister Danny Kennedy announced this week that a £100,000 road improvement scheme on the A34 Lisnagole Road at Aghnaskew, Maguiresbridge will begin on Monday, January 12.

The resurfacing of around a one kilometre stretch of the A34 from Maguiresbridge to Lisnaskea is expected to be completed by Friday, January 23.

A spokesman for the Department for Regional Development pointed out that whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures.

Danny Kennedy believes “this scheme will greatly improve the surface and structural strength of this important A34 route and road users will quickly benefit from the investment.” To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, the DRD spokesman said it will be necessary to close the road to traffic from 8am to 6pm daily.

Well signposted traffic diversions will be in place from Maguiresbridge via Brookeborough and from Lisnaskea via the Gola Road. Drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

“As with any scheme of this type, severe weather conditions may impact on the scheduled dates,” indicated the spokesman. For details of this and other road improvements across Northern Ireland, people are advised to “visit: http://www.trafficwatchni.com”.
