INTREPID runner Aravon McCann, from Maguiresbridge, is undertaking three marathons in one year for her chosen charity in memory of her daughter.

Belfast and Dublin have been completed and she is now preparing to run London on April 24, to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young in memory of her daughter, Aine, who passed away, at the age of eight, in 2002.

Having accomplished Dublin in October, she said she was “totally elated”. It followed on from Belfast last May, when her time was four hours and 19 minutes.

She confesses this “meant nothing” to her as she didn’t know what was a good or bad time, but she admits it turned out she “didn’t do too badly.”

But then, she said she went to Dublin and finished it in three hours, 58 minutes. Coming in under four hours, she just couldn’t believe it.
“I danced towards the girls more excited than words could explain,” she said.

She added: “I really thought I would do one and one only as a type of bucket list thing, but then thought I would go mad and do the three in one year to raise money for CRY.”

Aravon acknowledges the running club in Maguiresbridge, adding: “MRC is such a fantastic bunch of people. The support we give each other is fantastic, and they were so supportive towards me on my mad venture.” She says she “really would never have achieved any of this without them”.

She is now very excited about London and admits she’s not concerned about her time, just as long as she can finish it, insisting it’s about “the fundraising of course”.
