A firefighter has been electrocuted while attending a call-out in Enniskillen.
The retained firefighter was responding to an incident at Old Henry Street late last Wednesday night in which a quantity of rubbish was on fire close to a derelict building.
It’s understood the firefighter was extinguishing the blaze near the former Scotch Stores when he came into contact with a live wire and was electrocuted. The shock, according to a source, threw him onto his back.
The firefighter was taken to South West Acute Hospital and was released a short time later.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) confirmed that a firefighter was injured during the incident.
“An investigation by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has commenced to establish the facts around the incident and this investigation is on-going,” he told The Impartial Reporter.
