A new school crest and uniform and a number of senior appointments have been made for the new Enniskillen Royal Grammar School which begins in September.

Describing the events as milestones having been reached, the Interim Board of Governors have announced the design of the new crest, after working with the School Council and staff. It features Enniskillen Castle, as the town’s stronghold and landmark for over four centuries, laurel leaves which have been a symbol of excellence since before Roman times and a crown depicting the school’s Royal status.

The new uniform was launched this week, in the colours of navy, red and gold connecting with Portora and Collegiate Schools as well as representing a new beginning for Enniskillen Royal Grammar School. Senior school students will be identified by a different tie.

While the new uniform is compulsory for Years 8 and 13 from this September, The Interim Board of Governors hoped the whole school will embrace

it as soon as possible. The new uniform in its entirety will be compulsory for all years from September 1 2017.

A range of sports kit has also been designed featuring the same colours. The uniform is available at S.D. Kells.

The Interim Board of Governors commented: “Uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the unique character of a school. It can instil pride and encourage identity with, and support for, our school ethos. The Interim Board of Governors is confident that parents and pupils alike will be enthusiastic in embracing these aims.”

The senior appointments made include the roles of Vice-Principals. These will be held by Mr. Trevor Smith and Mrs. Ruth Maxwell.

Senior teachers appointed are Miss Kerry McCabe, Mr. Stephen Gaston and Mr. Philip Beddard.

A Year 12 subject information evening was held recently to highlight the strong and vibrant Sixth Form experience available in Enniskillen Royal Grammar School from September 2016 both in terms of the wide range of subject choices and in the wide variety of extra-curricular and wider learning experiences on offer.

Principal Designate, Miss Elizabeth Armstrong commented: “Much careful planning is being taken forward in many areas in preparation for September 2016 as we seek to make Enniskillen Royal Grammar School a centre of excellence where pupils are challenged and supported in equal measure and where Governors, staff, pupils and parents join together as a purposeful community in pursuing the school motto Perstare et Praestare: to persevere and to excel.
