The Rotary Club of Enniskillen is teeing up a Pro-am Golf Challenge at Castle Hume Golf Club, Enniskillen on June 10, 2016 to raise funds for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland who are a registered charity supporting Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).
Last Wednesday morning, the Pro-am was launched at St. Angelo Airport Enniskillen and the Air Ambulance Helicopter flew in from Portrush where it had been covering the North West 200, especially for the occasion.
John Trimble, Foundation Chairman, Rotary Club of Enniskillen, who was at the launch, explained that “the late Dr. John Hinds (The Flying doctor), was a passionate campaigner for an air ambulance service for Northern Ireland, which is the only part of the UK not to have such a service.”
He said: “Dr Hinds provided voluntary emergency medical cover at motor cycle races and followed the races on a motor bike to be on hand immediately in the event of an accident. On the evening of 3 July 2015, Hinds was involved in an accident while providing medical cover at a Skerries 100 practice session. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin but died the following day from his injuries.”
Mr. Trimble noted: “On 21 March 2016, the day that would have been Dr Hind’s 36th birthday, the key findings of a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service consultation were announced. £4 million of funding has been granted towards the project. The plans are for an aircraft to be based initially at St Angelo Airport Enniskillen, which will take the call sign “Delta 7”, formerly used by Dr Hinds.”
Mr. Trimble highlighted that the Rotary Club of Enniskillen is organising the PROAM Golf Challenge on June 10 ‘to raise funds for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland who are a registered charity supporting Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).’
Those in attendance at last Wednesday’s launch included: Eugene Greene, Managing director of Cooneen Group (premium sponsor); Mark Bushe, CEO H3 Health Insurance (premium sponsor); Tom Elliott, MP; Ken Rainey, President of the Rotary Club of Enniskillen; Ian Crowe, Air Ambulance N.I. Trustee;  Rodney Connor, Air Ambulance N.I.
