The two council seats left vacant following the election of Rosemary Barton (UUP) and Richie McPhillips (SDLP) to the Assembly are expected to be filled by the end of the month.
UUP sources have named three potential candidates to fill Mrs. Barton’s Erne North seat and a party spokesman said: “We are moving to an early announcement on Rosemary`s replacement.”
Sources within the UUP have named local party communications assistant Jennifer Young and Kesh entertainer Gary Wilson as potentials for the seat. Another party member who was previously a DUP Council candidate is also understood to be in the running.
Meanwhile the SDLP remain tight-lipped about Mr. McPhillip’s Erne East replacement. The party will hold its selection convention on May 31. A party spokesman said: “The party is currently accepting nominations to fill the vacancy and we hope the process can be completed in the coming weeks.”
The candidates to be co-opted onto the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council seats must be listed on the electoral roll in the ward they intend to represent.
