In the Birthday Honours, announced last weekend, the Principal of the Moat Primary School, Lisnaskea, Mrs. Felicity Humphreys was recognised with an M.B.E. for services to Education.
“It is a privilege to receive such a prestigious award,” acknowledged Mrs. Humphreys, who said the news came as a complete surprise.
She started her primary school teaching career in September 1985 in Lisbellaw Primary School. She was Vice-Principal in Lisbellaw P.S. for a short time before moving to become Principal in the Moat in January 2007.
In response to her M.B.E., she said she was “absolutely thrilled and honoured, yet truly humbled” to receive this award.
She commented: “However the school is driven by a strong vibrant team, and this award recognises the work of every member of that team. I regard this as an honour for the whole school, including the very committed governors, the excellent and dedicated staff, the very supportive parents and particularly all the wonderful pupils I have met on my journey as teacher and principal. This award is tribute to all who make the Moat Primary School an ‘outstanding school’ and a ‘sector leading school’.”
Mrs. Humphreys added it is also tribute to her previous Principals in Lisbellaw who “recognised and encouraged” her leadership skills, and she also thanked her family for their support in the background.
Mrs. Jacqueline Patterson, Vice-Principal of the Moat, said the governors, staff and pupils are delighted to offer heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Humphreys on being awarded an M.B.E. She said “as a school community we feel that this honour is richly deserved.”
