A Fermanagh-south Tyrone MP is to review his security arrangements following the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox who was shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, West Yorkshire last week.

In the wake of Mrs. Cox’s death, Westminster authorities have been been offering security advice to all MPs, including the Ulster Unionist’s Tom Elliott.

“I will, as I do regularly review my own arrangements and will take advice from those with security expertise,” Mr. Elliott told The Impartial Reporter.

He listened on Monday as tributes to Mrs. Cox came pouring in from across the political spectrum during a special sitting of the House of Commons and attended a remembrance service at St. Margaret’s Church at Westminster.

Speaking afterwards, Mr. Elliott paid his own tribute to Mrs. Cox.

“Jo was elected firstly at the same election as me last year.

“From my limited contact and interaction with Jo I found her to be a dedicated MP, but I gathered from her outlook that she was also dedicated to whatever she was involved in. That may have been her work with international communities through Oxfam and other charities, working for people in her constituency and at her home with her family.

“Her murder is a major loss to society, to Parliament, to the public in her constituency and most of all to her family. My thoughts and prayers are with her husband, daughters and wider family circle at this time,” said Mr. Elliott.
