A 30-YEAR-OLD man accused of assaulting another man almost two years ago is to face a trial in the Crown Court.

Connor Curran, of Foglish Road, Fivemiletown, is charged with assaulting his alleged victim, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm, on August 18, 2014.

He is further charged with unlawfully fighting and making an affray and the criminal damage of a watch strap belonging to the man on the same date.

Curran appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday for a preliminary enquiry in the case.

A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative told the court that, based on the papers submitted, the defendant had a prima facie case to answer.

Defending solicitor, Myles McManus, replied that this was not formally conceded, but added that he would not be making any contrary submissions at this stage.

District judge, Benita Boyd, observed that she was “satisfied” there was a prima facie case against the defendant.

Curran declined at this stage to answer the charges against him.

He further declined to give evidence himself, call any witnesses or tender any written statements on behalf of witnesses.

The judge concluded by releasing him on his own bail of £500 to appear before Dungannon Crown Court for his arraignment on Tuesday, October 4.
