The Rev. Andrew Quill, currently rector of Kinawley and Holy Trinity Parish, is to take up a new appointment as rector of Holy Trinity Church, Dromore. His Institution Service will be held at the Co. Tyrone Church on Friday, September 9.

He has held his present office since November 2009, having previously spent three and a half years as curate in Drumragh and Mountfield in Omagh.

Before that he and his wife Joanne served as mission partners with CMS Ireland in Luwero Diocese in Uganda for six years and prior to that in Kajiado Diocese in Kenya for three years.

Andrew, who trained as an architect at university, and his wife Joanne, who trained as a midwife, were engaged in development work in Kenya and in their spare time did missions.

In Uganda, where Andrew was ordained in December 2005, their service was a combination of mission and development work. The Rev. Quill says he has enjoyed his time in Derrylin, where he mentions that they have seen some growth within the parish.

“We have seen God moving here. I’m hopeful that it will continue to grow as God continues to move through the parishioners under the person whom God calls to lead them,” he said.

One of their favourite services started in Derrylin is a monthly Friendship Service, when they enjoy worship and doing crafts.

Andrew explains the service is for adults and children with learning challenges and their carers from across the community.

Preparing to move to Dromore for his new appointment in Holy Trinity Church, he said that he was approached by the parish in Dromore and “after a period of time felt the Lord was calling us to move there.”

Andrew, whose father Canon Walter Quill is a well-known face, having been the rector in Castlederg for 25 years, and his wife Joanne have a family of three: Christine, 19, is studying film and theatre in Reading University; Hannah, 17, is studying at South West College, Enniskillen; and David, 15; he is going into the last year of his GCSE studies at Erne Integrated College.

Andrew’s Service of Institution will take place in Holy Trinity Church, Dromore, on September 9, at 7.30pm.
