Its been a red letter day in Irvinestown recently when its iconic phonebox got a makeover.
After local councillors, Raymond Farrell complained about the poor condition of the phonebox in May, BT advised him that it could be next year before the kiosk could be painted because of the current workload.
He said at the time that with Irvinestown being a tourist county and Irvinestown with significant footfall and passing traffic, he felt it was sad if the telephone kiosk was left in such a poor state of repair.
But things changed just in time for the Lady of the Lake Festival”.
Councillor Farrell stated: “After weeks of hearing no, can’t be done and not cost effective, I am pleased to see that the old traditional phonebox in the Main Street of Irvinestown has had an internal and external painting.
“This landmark is valued by many including the many people who see this as part of Irvinestown’s local history as well as the tourist aspect which has this progressive town playing its part in Fermanagh`s tourism future.
“I hope it remains in tip top condition and that it remains a beautiful feature in the future,” he added.
