Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Fermanagh fundraising group recently held an information evening for supporters to thank and congratulate them on raising an incredible £55,000 over the last year, bringing the group’s total to £600,000 since the charity was founded 30 years ago.

Friends of the Cancer Centre, which is based in the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, has a fantastic support base in Fermanagh area led by chairperson, Geraldine Corrigan and dedicated volunteers including Friends of the Cancer Centre trustees, Avril Graham and Jim Gamble.

Geraldine Corrigan, chairperson of Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Fermanagh fundraising group, said:
“The Fermanagh group keeps going from strength to strength and we are delighted to announce that we have raised over £55,000 in the last year. On behalf of the group, I’d like to thank the people of Fermanagh for their continued support and for helping raise such a fantastic sum to help support an extremely worthwhile cause.

Many cancer patients in Fermanagh will have to receive treatment, particularly radiotherapy, in Belfast and Friends of the Cancer Centre are there to ensure that they get the support and care that they need, including supporting the on-site patient hotel, Glenview, which many Fermanagh patients have made use of while getting treatment in Belfast. Every penny we raise in Fermanagh will make a real difference to local people affected by cancer.”

Friends of the Cancer Centre is currently funding 28 additional staff in the Cancer Centre, including doctors, nurses and researchers. Claire Hogarth, fundraising manager for Friends of the Cancer Centre, said: “The support we receive from people across Fermanagh and their generosity never ceases to amaze us. I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Geraldine, Avril, Jim and all the members of the Fermanagh fundraising group and everyone who has supported us over the years. The money raised in the local community is helping us make a real and meaningful difference to thousands of cancer patients.”
