Enniskillen rower Holly Nixon has become Fermanagh’s first ever senior World Championship gold medal winner when she helped the Great Britain Women’s Four to a comprehensive win at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam today (Saturday).
The crew of Fiona Gammond, Donna Etiebet, Holly Norton and Nixon turned in a superb display as they won by a massive five seconds.

USA won this title last year and led at the 500m marker by 0.62 of a second but he GB crew upped their rate rowed through the United States to take a narrow lead at halfway before pulling away from the Americans to win with clear water at the finish line.
In so doing, Holly Nixon becomes Fermanagh's first ever World Senior Champion in any sport and is some achievement for the 22 year old who is competing in her first year at senior level.
The medal adds to an impressive collection which already includes a World Junior sculls silver medal while rowing for Ireland in 2011 and a World U23 bronze medal with the GB women’s eight in 2015.
