Kinawley 5-05 Tempo 2-11

Kinawley recovered from a disastrous start to go on and clinch the Fermanagh Intermediate Championship title at Brewster Park on Saturday night.

Trailing 2-01 to 0-00 after six minutes the Borus looked to be in bother, but they found their feet thereafter and plundered five goals of their own en route to victory.

The Maguires came flying out of the blocks and had the ball in the back of the Kinawley net after only 30 seconds when Niall McCusker challenged the Borus goalkeeper for a loose ball which ended up in the net.

And five minutes later Aidan Breen blasted home a second goal for Tempo to give them the perfect start.

However, Kinawley, led by the excellent Ruairi Corrigan, responded superly to this early set back and by the 16th minute they were back on level terms.

Corrigan, who registered all of his sides scores in the first half, lifted the ball over Tempo goalkeeper Matthew Jackson for his sides opening goal and he then converted a penalty to tie the game at 2-01 apiece.

Tempo hit back with a couple of Brian Jackson points but Corrigan fired over one of his own before stepping up to tuck away a second penalty to leave it 3-03 to 2-03 in Kinawley's favour at the interval.

Tempo started the brighter of the sides in the opening period of the second half as substitute Tiarnan Bogue banged over a fine score before Jackson converted two frees to levelup proceedings.

Corrigan answered with a point from the left for Kinawley as they got their noses back in front but the Borus then suffered a hige blow as Corrigan was forced off with a shoulder injury midway through the half.

However, they were to go on  and net a fourth goal soon after as Shaun Doherty teed up Donal Owens to put four between the sides.

Back again though came Tempo and Ryan Ingram landed two terrific score from the right hand side while Ryan Bogue also chipped in with a score to make it a one point game as we moved into the final ten minutes.

Doherty, who was a growing influence on matters, put two in it as he fired over and with four minutes to go Kinawley swooped for their fifth goal of the game. Substitute Sean Leonard rose to punch a Doherty 45 to the net as the lead moved out to five points.

Tempo did keep plugging away and Ryan Keenan knocked over two late frees but they were unable to get in for the goal they needed as Kinawley secured a three point victory.
